No Gun Law Bill Outcomes Yet

There is no news yet on the outcome of the various Nevada Bills regarding firearms (registration, concealed carry, etc.) that went before the legislature. As soon as we get any information, we will let you know.

Stopping Gun Transfers

At this time, Guns & Guitars has stopped doing transfers. Nevada gun stores have been notified by the NV Dept. of Taxation that we are to collect sales tax on all transfers, add sales tax to our transfer fee, as well as add the price of the firearm (that someone else made a profit on) to our Gross Receipts so we can be taxed on it. It is simply a losing proposition for us all the way around. Occasional exceptions will be made for customers who have purchased firearms from us, but we will need a prior request.

Next CCW Class

The next CCW (Concealed Carry Weapons) Class will be held on Saturday, May 16th @ 9:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 700 Hardy Way, Mesquite. The fee is $100 for Nevada only; $140 for Nevada and Florida (see below). Sign-ups are being taken in Guns & Guitars, or you may call Instructor Lance Barr at (702) 346-3960.

Lance Barr and Wild West Firearms & Training are now offering to everyone who takes the CCW class the opportunity to qualify for a Florida Concealed Carry Permit. They will supply the certificate, paperwork, instructions on how to apply, for an additional $40 fee.

Please make note that it is taking at least 4 months to receive your CCW permit in the mail! Until you receive it, you may not legally carry a concealed weapon. For permits that are due to be renewed, please be sure to allow enough time so there is no lapse in coverage..

WDW Classes and Events

There is so much happening with WDW, we are posting their flyers and newsletter below. Be sure to get on their mailing list so you can directly receive lots of valuable information.

Hi Gals,

Our next shoot meet is Saturday, May 9th, 9:00 due to the heat, it's supposed to be in the 90's.

May 13, Wednesday, our John Hugh's Personal Self-Defense seminar at the Senior Center, 1:00, $25.00. Those who have attended our presentations and seminars say they are amazed and that they find meaning in personal self-defense empowerment. We cover many aspects of self defense from hand-to-hand contact measures/leverage techniques, weaponry meant for women including personal alarms to what to do in a home invasion or public shooting and much more. Email or contact Becky at 345-3134 if interested or you can sign up at Jan's & Mike's Guns and Guitars across the street from Wal-Mart.

May 16, Saturday, Coach Barr's CCW class, contact Coach at 346-3960 to sign up, Becky and I help with the class, hope to see you there.

May 30 is our next Women's Beginner's Shooting Class at 10:00 then regular meet at 1:00with our annual "Shoot the You-Know-What Day", however, if the weather continues to be hot we'll have to schedule a different day for the Beginner's Shooting Class and have the regular meet at 9:00, watch for updates and notices of any changes. Our "Shoot the You-Know-What Day" is too much fun whereas we all bring items made of light plastic/tin/rubber that we'd like to destroy and large plastic containers - we fill with water. We shoot it all up but the most fun is to see what different calibers do to the water filled containers, it's amazing!

Three new things:

1) We are taking names for a Men's Beginner's Shooting Class so tell your significant others or guy buddies (we need just a couple more for the class, this could be considered a brush up class if they've shot before), email or contact me at 346-6149. The classes, for both gals and guys, consist of:

  • • Range requirements, range safety rules, firing line commands
  • • Firearms safety, rules of safe gun handling
  • • Different handguns and parts of a pistol
  • • Gripping the gun, proper aim & stance, sighting-in
  • • Different caliber and types of bullets
  • • Holsters including concealed; belts, magazines and speed loaders
  • • Types of concealable weapons, pointers and placement, awareness and your surroundings
  • • Gun cleaning tips, tools and cleaners/lubricants
  • • NRA membership, insurance and benefits of being a member
  • • Inspection of your weapon and practice shoot with instruction

*We cover a lot of ground and have received much gratitude for the class.

2) We've started a Personal Self-Defense In-Home Workshop. Learn the importance of personal self defense from the comfort of your own home, or location of choice, with family or friends. We are offering a 10% gratuity incentive for the Hostess or Host. Email or contact Becky at 345-3134 for information.

3) Let me know if you gals are interested in a Women's Only CCW Class for July or August. We will qualify, shoot, first in the cooler morning then finish the class, textbook, indoors afterwards. Email or contact me at 346-6149 if interested.

Be sure and check the website, for upcoming events & schedule and be sure to bring large empty containers to the May 30th shoot meet.

Hope I got it all, whew!

Happy Mother’s Day, Ladies!

Hope to see you at the coming events,

Peg and Beck
